Jeff Smith is a partner in the Bricker & Eckler banking & financial services group. He has over 25 years experience in complex financial institution and general corporate matters, including transactional regulatory compliance and "troubled institution" issues, both as in-house legal counsel for large financial services organizations and in private practice.

Representative Experience

  • Former counsel for Bank One Corporation. Responsible for a variety of significant corporate legal and regulatory matters, including extensive nationwide merger, acquisition and divestiture activities for Bank One and its subsidiaries

  • Former senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Lincoln Financial Corporation in Fort Wayne, IN (now part of Wells Fargo and Company)

  • Former vice president, general counsel and secretary of Trustcorp, Inc. (now part of KeyCorp)

  • Former special consultant to the Ohio Division of Financial Institutions in connection with a comprehensive revision of the Ohio Banking Code, undertaken in conjunction with the Ohio Bankers Association
