School Finance
Bricker & Eckler assists school districts on a variety of school finance issues,
including tax levy planning, protection of assessed valuation, tax abatement and exemption issues,
options for financially troubled districts, alternative strategies for revenue generation (such as beverage agreements, advertising programs, telecommunications tower site leases, and grants of naming rights), and other matters that impact district finances, such as privatization of services.
Bricker & Eckler represented the interests of over 500 public school districts in litigation challenging the constitutionality of the system of funding public education in Ohio. As a result of our successful presentation of the issues, the Ohio Supreme Court declared that the responsibility for the funding of public education is a state responsibility; thereafter, legislation was enacted that has resulted in the expenditure of $3.5 billion on school facilities in Ohio.
