The Ohio State University Law School class of 2009; member of the 2008 summer associate class |
I am one of the fortunate few who have found a place where my background, training, personality, talents, and goals are all appreciated and utilized. Working at Bricker & Eckler as a summer associate has been a rewarding experience, and one that has convinced me that I made the right decision in choosing this firm.
Bricker is made up of bright, energetic, and fun people who are also stellar lawyers. Very few places will offer the atmosphere that you can find here. I felt welcomed from the very first interview, and that attitude of inclusion resonates throughout the firm with associates, partners, and staff. I have been continually impressed by the respectful manner in which everyone treats their colleagues here at Bricker.
If you are looking for a law firm where you can have access to sophisticated and varied legal work while still enjoying a balanced and involved lifestyle, Bricker is just the place. The firm encourages a pleasant social atmosphere by several formal and informal dinners, happy hours, and kickball games. The work load allowed me to be challenged and to try a variety of legal disciplines without feeling overwhelmed. I have had opportunities to accompany some of the attorneys on out of office assignments, such as speeches and depositions. Bricker is also located in a beautiful historic building that is steps away from the state capital building, allowing us to experience downtown Columbus fully.
One aspect of Bricker & Eckler that I found to be particularly helpful in shaping my career is the mentoring program. Each summer associate is assigned a firm mentor and a peer mentor. The firm mentor is a more senior attorney who can answer your career-related questions and help substantially in shaping your future direction. The peer mentor is a newer associate who helps to answer your more informal day-to-day questions. Both mentors are an invaluable tool to your success during the summer program.
I could not be happier that I chose Bricker. It has exceeded my expectations for this summer. Deciding where to interview and, ultimately, accept a summer associateship can be a harrowing decision, but trust me when I say that you cannot go wrong with Bricker & Eckler!
