Recruiting: Why Choose Bricker & Eckler?

Victoria Flinn
The George Washington University class of 2009; member of the 2008 summer associate class

Recruitment is undoubtedly a stressful process. Whether it’s your first interview or your fifteenth, the apprehension associated with walking into a room of smiling strangers can be overwhelming at times. On the surface, they all love their jobs. They couldn’t be happier with the thrilling legal work they get to do for their high-powered clients. They all say they have the perfect balance between work and family. But what’s it really like?

At Bricker & Eckler, what you see is what you get. Everyone you meet here is incredibly genuine and loyal. You can tell from the way the attorneys and staff interact that they are true colleagues. Each summer associate class is small, which fosters a sense of camaraderie. We aren’t preoccupied with senseless competition; we focus our energy on building long-term friendships. These bonds are evident in classes that have come before us. Attorneys and staff work together as a team and treat each other with respect.

As a summer associate, I also feel that my work is valued. Assignments come from both partners and associates, and the feedback is tremendous. At some firms, a rigid hierarchy controls workplace interactions. Not so at Bricker. I have had the privilege of working with very impressive and seasoned attorneys. They have confidence in my work and are genuinely interested in my opinions. With each assignment, I have the opportunity to go beyond merely reciting the law in a particular area. I’m encouraged to analyze and problem-solve, notwithstanding my lack of experience. Bricker’s meritocracy is unique and something I do not take for granted.

Bricker further sets itself apart from other firms because the work you receive is in accordance with your interests and goals. My mentors at the firm took great care to assign me projects from a variety of practice areas. When I expressed an interest in litigation, they made sure I received more work from that department. This practice continues when you become a full-time associate. All new associates are part of a New Attorney Working Group for one year. During this time, they continue to explore different areas until they determine their ultimate field of choice.

If you’re looking for a well-respected, close-knit firm, Bricker is for you. My experience here was truly rewarding. I am lucky to be part of the Bricker family.
