Consistent with our rich tradition, commitment to diversity and inclusion and in tribute to Charlie’s tireless work on behalf of the community, Bricker & Eckler LLP is pleased to present the Charles H. Walker Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship for 2018.

Established to provide a first-year law student with a valuable employment experience early in his or her legal career, this scholarship will be awarded to a candidate who: demonstrates leadership skills, academic strength, service to the community, an overall commitment to excellence and who has exhibited a meaningful commitment to diversity and inclusion.

We proudly dedicate this scholarship in memory of our partner and trusted friend Charles H. Walker, whose career and service to our community exemplified a strong commitment to both the legal profession and Bricker’s tradition of diversity and inclusion. Throughout his career, he served as a recruiter and mentor to our younger attorneys and helped guide Bricker & Eckler’s diversity and inclusion commitment.

Students who will be 1L students in an ABA-approved law school by January 2018 are eligible to apply for the scholarship. One scholarship in the form of a $10,000 cash award (less any applicable taxes and withholdings) towards law school tuition and other law school related expenses will be awarded. In addition, the scholarship recipient will receive a paid summer associate position for the summer of 2018.

Eligible candidates should forward their résumé with GPA to the attention of Patricia M. Lach, Director of Professional Development, Bricker & Eckler LLP, 100 South Third Street, Columbus, OH 43215. All résumés must be submitted /received by February 1, 2018. Scholarship finalists will be interviewed by members of the Firm’s Recruiting Committee and we hope to make the final selection by April 1, 2018.

Accounting Clerk

Bricker & Eckler is currently searching for an Accounting Clerk to be part of the Finance Team. Responsibilities include making the bank deposit, scanning/distributing the list of checks, manual disbursements, coding invoices, coding all reimbursements and certain disbursements into the financial system, run Generic Importer daily and record manual disbursements, review manual logs and enter information into the billing system, post all seminar payments, process all personal Charges & Collection of Payments for staff and attorneys, and assist Accounting Manager with special projects. Candidates must have a High School Diploma, some college coursework preferred and one to three years of work experience. Experience in accounts payable preferred. Candidates must also possess good communication skills, both oral and written, be detail oriented, have general knowledge of accounting principles and knowledge of MS Word and Excel.

Construction Law Fellow
Our firm offers a unique program for engineers or architects interested in transitioning to construction law. The Bricker & Eckler Construction Fellowship combines part-time study with full-time immersion in a real-world construction law department while at the same time making accommodations for exam schedule. Facilities Maintenance Technician
Bricker & Eckler is currently searching for a Facilities Maintenance Technician to perform a variety of tasks to repair, maintain and preserve the historic Bricker building and mechanical systems and any leased Columbus offices. This position will maintain the firm’s computerized maintenance request system, move desks, tables and furniture, as needed, assemble and repair office furniture and fixtures and repair or replace carpet, molding and ceiling tiles. This person will also perform regular maintenance on heating and air conditioning system, perform minor electrical and plumbing repairs, perform carpentry and construction tasks, interior and exterior painting, grounds maintenance and minor repairs to mechanical equipment. The position requires a high school graduate or equivalent, plus two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of commercial office buildings and mechanical systems. Technical training in electrical, plumbing, HVAC and/or other building trades is preferred. Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license, good driving record and meet requirements for insurability under the firm’s liability policy. Responsible for 24-hour emergency maintenance service, if needed. Physical requirements include, but are not limited to, climbing ladders, lifting, pushing and pulling items weighing over 100 lbs., bending, stooping, reaching, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling and grasping.

Legal Assistant/Secretary – Financial Services/Business Law
Bricker & Eckler is currently searching for a legal assistant with strong secretarial and administrative talents and at least five years of prior legal experience, including strong skills to support our financial services practice. Skills should include but not be limited to mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, federal income tax matters, and business law. Proficiency using Excel is also required. Candidate should also have experience with litigation software and an aptitude for training on new systems; excellent written/oral communication skills; strong attention to detail; excellent editing skills, including proofreading and cite-checking; and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Windows 7/Word 2010) and discovery software such as Relativity. Candidates should display a high level of professionalism, reliability and have the ability to work well in a team and with personnel at all levels. 

Marketing & Business Development Specialist
Bricker & Eckler is currently searching for a Marketing & Business Development Specialist to become a part of the firm’s strategic in-house marketing communications team. Responsibilities involve account management for assigned practice groups, providing guidance on strategies, business development initiatives, managing multiple projects and measuring results. Position requires an undergraduate degree and three to five years’ experience in public relations, communications, marketing or business development. Legal marketing, public relations agency or association experience is a plus. Candidates must possess strong communication and writing skills, client service skills, ability to manage multiple projects and desire to work as part of a collaborative team. Knowledge of HTML is preferred.

Part-time Legal Assistant/Secretary – Job Share (afternoons) and evening support
Bricker is currently searching for a legal assistant/secretary to join our team in a job-sharing arrangement and as evening legal support, working approximately 29 hours per week from 2:00 to 8:30 pm, Monday through Thursday and 2:00 to 5:00 pm on Friday. We are specifically seeking someone with strong secretarial and administrative talents with at least five years of prior legal experience, including strong skills to support our financial services/litigation attorneys including complex commercial financial litigation at the trial and appellate level, class action defense and bankruptcy, bankruptcy litigation and reorganization. The following skills are essential: outstanding typing, spelling, proofreading, and grammatical skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Windows 7/Word 2010); strong attention to detail; self-starter; ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment; and enthusiasm for working as part of a team.
