    Employers To Be Penalized for Improperly Responding to Unemployment Compensation Information Requests

    At the same time Ohio’s General Assembly passed the Shared Work bill discussed here, the General Assembly enacted a new penalty provision for employers that fail to timely or adequately respond to unemployment compensation information requests from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS).

    Under the penalty provision, which takes effect in the fall of 2013, when an employer demonstrates a pattern of failing to timely or adequately respond to ODJFS, that employer’s account will no longer be credited in situations where ODJFS discovers that it erroneously paid unemployment benefits to an unemployed worker due to that employer’s untimely or inadequate response.
