Higher education attorney Rachel King joins Bricker’s Cleveland office

New to the firm’s Cleveland office, Rachel King has joined Bricker & Eckler LLP’s education law practice. Rachel has built an impressive legal career with significant experience in key areas of higher education law, including Title IX and civil rights, employment law, the Clery Act, disability laws, the First Amendment and FERPA.

Rachel joined Bricker from Cleveland State University, where she served as its first Chief Compliance Officer. In that role, she established the compliance function, conducting its first compliance risk assessment, developing a university-wide training program and strengthening its policy development and audit functions. She also served as Cleveland State’s Interim Director of the Center for International Services & Programs. Early in her career, Rachel worked at the U.S. State Department and U.S. Department of Energy drafting and negotiating agreements between the U.S. and countries in the Middle East, South Asia and Europe.

Rachel is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, where she served as president of the Native American Law Students Association, and is also a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. As a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys, as well as a member of the Shaker Heights Public Schools Strategic Planning Committee, she is active in both the legal field and the local community.
