Maria Armstrong is a partner and chair of the Bricker & Eckler government relations group and a member of the energy, public utilities & environmental law group. She represents clients in all aspects of state and local government with an emphasis on public contracting, campaign finance and ethics and election law.
Representative Experience
Serves as legal counsel to several corporations, ballot issue committees and trade associations to support or oppose statewide ballot initiatives and referenda
Assists numerous corporations and non-profit entities with various aspects of corporate compliance with governmental regulations relative to public ethics, lobbying and campaign finance laws
Provides legal and service support to providers and contractors seeking to obtain, challenge, renew or modify state
procurement contracts or grant agreements
Chief Legal Counsel, Ohio Governor's Office. Provided counsel directly to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Cabinet on legal and ethical matters, high-level policy concerns, and legislative initiatives. Served as the Governor's liaison to the Attorney General, Supreme Court, Ethics Commission, and Inspector General
General Counsel, Ohio Department of Administrative Services. Managed legal and legislative division which provided legal support to departmental divisions responsible for construction, contracting, formal and informal bidding procedures, state procurement, personnel, collective bargaining, and equal opportunity matters
Commissioner, Environmental Review Appeals Commission. Heard and decided administrative appeals from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and other environmental agencies
President, Armstrong Consulting, LLC. Guided Ohio School Facilities Commission with the creation and implementation of diversity and urban school policices; assisted with the creation and organization of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services; lead a team of senior corporate managers in reviewing operations of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction for Governor Taft's Management Improvement Commission
Assistant City Attorney, Columbus City Attorney's Office; represented City of Columbus in numerous civil, criminal and appellate matters
