Political Action Committee and
Election Participation Advice

Bricker & Eckler advises clients regarding providing financial and other assistance related to the electoral process, including both candidate and issue advocacy. In addition, the firm counsels clients on political contribution limits; fund-raising methods; in-kind and independent expenditures for political action committees (PACs), corporations, individuals, candidates, and issue campaign committees. This includes assistance in complying with Ohio and federal election law registration, reporting, disclaimer, and advertising requirements and prohibitions. Working closely with the Office of the Ohio Secretary of State, individual county boards of election, the Ohio Elections Commission and the Federal Election Commission, the firm works to ensure proper interpretation and compliance with this complex and developing area of law.

Issue Advice
Bricker & Eckler LLP assists clients in developing legal strategies to ensure the promotion or defeat of ballot initiatives. The firm works with statewide referendum and initiative campaign committees, and with local issue and school levy committees. In fact, the firm recently successfully handled an extensive ballot initiative petition opposition in 86 of Ohio's 88 counties for a major national organization representing the leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in the nation. We monitored signature gathering at over 808 polling places, checked signatures on all petitions, and filed protest actions in 41 counties.

Advice regarding disclaimer and advertising requirements and prohibitions, as well as state and local reporting requirements, is provided. In addition, the firm assists clients in complying with filing requirements.

Candidates and Political Parties Advice
Bricker & Eckler provides advice to candidates for political office, as well as local, state and national political parties and caucuses. The firm advises candidates and parties regarding Ohio and federal restrictions affecting fund-raising methods and contributions, and assists with state and federal campaign finance reports.

Ohio Elections Commission and Federal Election Commission Advocacy and Advisory Opinions
Bricker & Eckler represents political action committees, candidates and political parties before the Ohio Elections Commission and the Federal Election Commission. The firm also assists clients in preparing and soliciting requests for public and private advisory opinions regarding state and federal election laws.
