THE FINAL HIPAA PRIVACY REGULATIONS
The effective date of the HIPAA regulations is now April 14, 2001 and the compliance date April 14, 2003.
The final HIPAA privacy regulations were released on December 20, 2000 on the HHS website and were published in the Federal Register on December 28, 2000. Below are options for viewing and printing the regulations. In addition, in the section-by-section page of this website we are in the process of compiling all of the HHS documentary and commentary regarding a particular section in one place and each section will include the regulatory language, the HHS description of that section and the HHS response to comments submitted on the proposed regulations.
This copy includes just the regulations without the commentary and is approximately 80 pages long in pdf format.
Below is the complete text of the regulations as they appeared in the Federal
Register on December 28, 2000. This text does not include the amendments of August 2002.
