While the November 2008 presidential election may seem far away, Ohio election law and campaign finance activities continue to move at a rapid pace. Various issue committees and candidates for office at the local, state, and federal level have witnessed a flurry of activity through changes and clarifications of Ohio’s election and campaign finance laws.
The Ohio Secretary of State recently issued several important directives including Directive 2007-06, which provides clarification on voter identification requirements at polling locations, absentee ballot information, and guidance for voters with disabilities.

These materials are invaluable tools for Ohio voters as several Ohio municipalities prepare
for May 2007 primary elections and the November 2007 general election. More information

Vast changes in Ohio campaign finance laws in late 2006 have been the focus of
increased attention in recent weeks.
H.B. 694, passed in late
2006 revised the manner in which contributions may be provided to elected officials by
individuals and companies who seek public contracts. Companies and individuals should be
careful to fully evaluate the provisions of H.B. 694 in analyzing their ability to secure and hold public contracts.
