HIPAA Privacy and Security Resources
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (commonly referred to as the “Stimulus Bill”) was signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009.
Tucked in the lengthy Stimulus Bill are major changes to HIPAA that will have a significant effect on hospitals, health plans, health insurers and other
covered entities. Below are resources to
assist you with these new changes.
NEW Proposed Rulemaking -- On July 14, 2010 HHS published proposed rules in the Federal Register modifying the HIPAA privacy, security and enforcement regulations. The proposed modifications include provisions extending the applicability of certain of the requirements to the business associates, establishing new limitations on the use and disclosure of protected health information for marketing and fundraising purposes, prohibiting the sale of protected health information, and expanding individuals’ rights to access their information and to obtain restrictions on certain disclosures of protected health information to health plans.
