Campaign Finance Compliance
In this term-limited and issue-focused environment, an "important election" is always just around the corner. It is in this new political
environment that many individuals, organizations and corporations have become more involved in the political process in an attempt to have an impact on
election day.
Compliance with the applicable federal and/or state campaign finance laws is critical to any level of participation in the political process.
Federal Campaign Finance
Knowing and understanding applicable federal campaign finance statutes and regulations is key when participating in the federal process. The Federal
Election Commission (FEC) admninisters and enforces the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) -- the statute that governs the financing of federal elections. More
specifically, the FEC enforces the provisions of the law such as the limits and prohibitions on contributions, and discloses campaign finance
information.
Ohio Campaign Finance
Participation in state elections requires strict adherence to Ohio's campaign finance laws and regulations. The Ohio Secretary of State receives,
processess and examines campaign finance reports for all state office candidates, state political parties, statewide political action committees and Ohio
General Assembly candidates. The Ohio Elections Commission is charged with enforcing many of Ohio's campaign finance laws and regulations.
