Provider-Based Health Facilities

A hospital may treat a subordinate facility for Medicare payment purposes either as part of the hospital, referred to as “provider-based,” or as freestanding. The Medicare and Medicaid certification, coverage, and payment implications of provider-based or freestanding status are significant. At Bricker & Eckler, our healthcare attorneys are very experienced in working through these matters with hospitals and are well-versed in the complicated regulatory schemes and ever-changing Medicare rules related to provider-based status.
