Useful guidance for distance learning reissued

Article

The Student Privacy Policy Office (SPPO) of the U.S. Department of Education has issued a document that gathers preexisting guidance that the SPPO believes will help educational institutions provide distance learning while continuing to meet FERPA’s requirements. The document may be found here.

This document may be very useful because it gathers the links to relevant guidance in one place. Highlights include:

  • Two pieces from the Security Best Practices Series
  • Letter to Mamas, which addresses when parents may observe lessons involving their children
  • A video on email and student privacy
  • FAQs on photos and videos under FERPA
  • Recently released FAQs on FERPA and the coronavirus
