Higher Education attorney Melissa Carleton recently wrote an op-ed piece for Higher Ed Dive in which she shares her thoughts on the Department of Education’s rescission of the 265-page Handbook for Campus Safety and Security Reporting, the new 13-page Clery Act Appendix for FSA Handbook that replaced it, and what it all means for college and university compliance. “Before, the devil was in the details. Today, the devil is in the deference, or perhaps the lack thereof,” Carleton says.
