Karia A. Ruffin

A former chemical engineer with 12 years of experience working for a large, multinational medical devices and health care company, Karia Ruffin earned a law degree and served as a solo practitioner, followed by a three-year stint as Assistant Attorney General for the state of Ohio. As a solo practitioner, she assisted clients with matters involving web-based services, including drafting privacy policies, term of use agreements and licensing agreements, and advised on intellectual property strategy. At the Attorney General’s Office, Karia worked in the Environmental Enforcement section, where she represented the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and Ohio’s State Emergency Response Commission in litigation matters. In this role, she gained experience with Ohio’s air, solid waste, oil and natural gas, and emergency response laws and regulations.
Karia is a member of Bricker’s energy and environmental law groups. Her practice includes support of litigation in state and federal court and before the Ohio Power Siting Board and Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. She represents pipeline companies, producers, and wind and solar power developers, including both public and private entities. Karia provides counsel to clients on environmental and regulatory matters, including compliance, due diligence, permitting and enforcement.
