CDC Updates Recommendations on COVID-19 Vaccinations for Pregnant Individuals

On August 11, 2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its guidance recommending COVID-19 vaccination for all people 12 years and older, including people who are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to get pregnant, or may become pregnant. The CDC cites to increasing evidence showing that the benefits of receiving a COVID-19 vaccine outweigh any known or potential risks of vaccination during pregnancy. The CDC repeated that there is currently no evidence that the vaccine causes fertility problems in men or women. The CDC recommends that individuals speak with their doctors about vaccination or call designated CDC phone lines. The site also directs physicians to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists information on vaccinating pregnant individuals.
