On April 1, 2021, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services ("CMS") published MLN Matters Article “Repayment of COVID-19 Accelerated and Advance Payments Began on March 30, 2021“ informing Medicare providers who requested and received COVID-19 accelerated and advance payments that CMS began recovering the earliest of those payments on March 30th. If you received a payment, CMS will begin to recoup any outstanding balance from any payments due to you from Medicare claims starting on the one-year anniversary of when you received your first payment. CMS advises providers to alert their billing departments of the scheduled recoupments. Additional information on the repayment terms of the Accelerated and Advance Payments can be found here.
