On Friday, February 5, 2021, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued guidance to healthcare providers on how to help educate patients about vaccine safety and protection from COVID-19-related fraud schemes. Providers are encouraged to share information with Medicare-covered patients about full Medicare coverage of the COVID-19 vaccine, protection of Medicare numbers, and how to spot Medicare fraud by reviewing Medicare claims summaries for unexpected charges. The Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General also offers information and tips for individuals to protect themselves from fraudulent schemes.
