CMS Provides Payment Reimbursement Guidance for Extra Doses of COVID-19 Vaccine

On August 16, 2021, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a special edition MLNconnects providing that effective August 12, CMS will pay to administer additional doses of COVID-19 vaccines consistent with the FDA emergency use authorizations at the same rates as the initial doses. The Department of Health and Human Services announced a plan on August 18, 2021 for administering booster shots starting the week of September 20, pending approval and recommendation by the Food and Drug Administration and CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
