The website has resources for employees (private and federal) suffering religious discrimination in the workplace. It also contains an interactive state map with links to state resources for employment discrimination based on religion. The website also has information for faith-based organizations about potential grant opportunities and retirement plans.
According to U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer, “Americans should not face discrimination in the workplace because of their religion. Our new Center for Faith website offers helpful guidance for American workers and faith organizations interested in competing for grants at the Department of Labor.” Labor Department launches new Center for Faith website | U.S. Department of Labor
The Trump administration continues to focus on decreasing religious bias in the workplace as one of its top priorities. Recent EEOC cases include allegations of: failure to accommodate requests for waiver of vaccine requirements; failure to accommodate requests for time off due to religious beliefs or to attend religious services; and terminating or harassing employees for their religious beliefs.
Employers should be mindful that requests for religious accommodation may only be denied if they would cause employers “undue hardship.” In order to prove an “undue hardship,” the employer must show that granting the request for accommodation would cause the employer to incur substantial increased costs in relation to the conduct of its particular business. Employers should carefully analyze any request for religious accommodation to ensure compliance with the law.
Our Bricker Graydon Wyatt Labor and Employment Team is available to help you navigate all of the challenges associated with requests for accommodation and religious discrimination law.
