Senate Committee to Hold Hearing on NLRB Nominee Craig Becker

By Edwin S. Hopson

The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) has just announced that it will hold a hearing on February 2, 2010, at 4 p.m. on the nomination of Craig Becker to be a Member of the National Labor Relations Board, a vote to follow on February 4, 2010 at 10 a.m.   Mr. Becker, who is a lawyer for the AFL-CIO and SEIU, had had his nomination placed on hold last year by Senator John McCain.  Senator McCain had complained about Mr. Becker's being approved by the Senate HLEP Committee without a hearing, particularly in light of some of the positions concerning the NLRB and NLRA taken by Mr. Becker which Senator McCain claimed were in the extreme.
