Thomas Perez Confirmed as U.S. Secretary of Labor

The Senate on July 18, 2013, voted 54 to 46 to confirm President Obama’s nomination of Thomas Perez to be U.S. Secretary of Labor.  Many Republicans had voiced opposition to Perez based on various actions he took during his time as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights.  Moving forward on Perez’ nomination was apparently part of the deal struck earlier this week on the filibuster issue.
