U.S. Department of Labor Issues Framework for AI Literacy
Written by: Brandon Girdley

On February 13, 2026, the U.S. Department of Labor published its Artificial Intelligence Literacy Framework, a memorandum designed to act as a resource for program design and to encourage expanded AI literacy training across the public workforce and education systems. The framework outlines five foundational content areas: understanding AI principles, exploring potential uses of AI, directing AI effectively, evaluating AI outputs, and using AI responsibly. The framework also provides seven delivery principles of AI literacy: enabling experiential learning, embedding learning in context, building complimentary human skills, addressing prerequisites to AI literacy, creating pathways for continued learning, preparing enabling roles, and designing for agility. The Department of Labor says the new AI literacy framework “provides guidance that will help accelerate effective AI skill development across the country.”
