Two Wyatt Attorneys Named to Louisville’s Newly Formed Civilian Review and Accountability Board
Louisville’s Metro Council recently approved 11 citizens to its newly formed Civilian Review and Accountability Board. Two of these board members are Wyatt attorneys, Turney Berry, leader of the firm’s Estate Planning team, and Marianna Michael, member of the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution team. The mission of the board is to work with the inspector general to examine practices put in place by the LMPD. They will also be tasked with reviewing new policies, standing operating procedures and making recommendations to the mayor and council on how to improve the LMPD’s operations. The Metro Council emphasized that this board was intentionally created to be diverse in gender, race, age, and occupation. Board member Rev. Barbara Haigler emphasized, “We just want people to feel that their police department – their government – is theirs.” This initiative was developed not just to target bad policing, but to build trust between the community, local government and the police department. Turney Berry is a nationally recognized leader in the areas of estate and business planning, estate and trust administration, and charitable giving and tax-exempt organizations. He leads the Firm’s Trusts, Estates & Personal Planning team. His commitment to community and civic involvement is extensive. He currently serves as the Chairman for the Center for Interfaith Relations, and as a board member for Earth School/Carbon Nation and the Louisville Downtown Rotary. Mr. Berry earned his J.D. from Vanderbilt University.
Marianna Michael is a member of Wyatt’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution team. She assists in the representation of a broad range of clients in a variety of cases including commercial disputes, employment matters, immigration law, and employee benefits. Ms. Michael serves on the board for the Young Professionals Association of Louisville (YPAL) Foundation, is a graduate of Leadership Louisville’s Focus Louisville 2018, and she was a Human Rights Advocacy Project Fellow in law school. Ms. Michael earned her J.D. magna cum laude from University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law.
