Overview
Darby is a member of Bricker Graydon Wyatt’s Public Finance practice group with a wealth of experience advising on complex projects at the intersection of public finance, economic development, and commercial real estate. His clients range from private developers of residential housing and industrial facilities to public entities such as municipalities, counties, townships, and special purpose financing entities like port authorities and new community authorities (NCAs).
Darby has served as both issuer and bond counsel on various types of bond financings, closing on issuances in principal amounts as large as $40 million. He has also assisted borrowers on state grants and loans aimed at incentivizing development of industrial sites, including one project with proceeds totaling approximately $50 million.
In addition to the financing side of his practice, Darby advises public entities on the establishment of economic development incentives like tax increment financing (TIF), special improvement districts (SIDs), joint economic development districts (JEDD), and property assessed clean energy financing (PACE).
Prior to joining Bricker Graydon Wyatt, Darby represented national and regional clients in commercial real estate and middle market lending transactions across single-family development, retail, hospitality, and other sectors. He now relies on this experience when advising clients on the ways economic incentives and bond financing fit into the overall picture of a client’s development plans, recognizing that commercial real estate and public finance professionals benefit from each other’s experience.
