U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services recently implemented a new rule that fundamentally changes how inadmissibility on the grounds of “public charge” will be determined. The rule establishes a new, and more burdensome, test to determine whether an immigrant applying to enter the U.S., filing for a visa extension, or converting  temporary immigration status into a green card is likely to become a “public charge.” A public charge is someone who relies on public benefits. The attached poster will help immigrants and employers understand how the public charge rule, and the use of certain public benefits, will affect future green card and visa applications.
